About this Site

This web site was launched in June 1999 by Rick Tucker.  The original objective was to host the online version of the Association of Game & Puzzle Collectors' The Game Catalog, which originated as a printed document listing all known American games through 1950.  Soon thereafter, additional game listings and resources were added to the baseline database.

In June 2003, the site introduced the ability to search through all information in all game information databases maintained by GameCatalog.org.

In May 2008, the site added content from the Spear's Archives and Anki Toner's Cycling Board Games site.

In March 2009, the site added results on game copyrights, patents, and trademarks, and now displays nearly all fields in the IGDB, include descriptions of covers and authors/designers where known. The site now links to game rules and instructions; the entire AGPC Archives (maintained by Anne Williams, retired AGPC Archivist) of paper rules and instructions were scanned by Bill Alexander and assembled by Rick Tucker into PDFs. It also enables text search of game rules, including scanned ones.
